day2

Hello everyone! It’s Michelle from A Little Tipsy and I am excited to be here to share with you my gift idea for two turtle doves. The second I saw the word turtle I knew what I wanted to do. Turtle to me equals the candy complete with pecans, chocolate and ooey gooey caramel. I took that idea and combined it with my favorite cookie recipe to create turtle cookies. These Homemade Turtle Cookies are delicious and easy!

Go ahead, lick the screen, I won’t judge. The best thing about this recipe? It’s made with a cake mix which makes it sooo easy and fast to throw together for last minute guests or a cookie exchange on a busy week. This shortcut just gives you time to make them special with drizzed chocolate and a delicious caramel center!

Caramel Filled Turtle Cookie

Ok, on to the recipe.

TURTLE COOKIES

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • Devil’s food cake mix
  • Rolos (about 24)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix eggs, oil, and cake mix. Place a Rolo in a dough ball just large enough to cover the whole Rolo. Roll the top of the dough ball in the chopped pecans. Place on cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 9 minutes. Let them cool for one minute on the pan and then move to a cooling rack. (or sneak one while they are warm and the caramel is gooey!)

Turtle Cookies

Microwave the chocolate chips for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between, until smooth. Drizzle over the top of the cookies using a spoon. Once all cookies are drizzled place them in the fridge for a few minutes to help the chocolate set.

Chocolate Drizzled Turtle Cookies

Stack in a clear treat bag and add a festive ribbon.

Gift just like that or pair with a bag of Dove Chocolates if you really want to stick to the two turtle dove theme!
